Nationals!

I'm a little thrown off because my entire blog page format changed on me over the weekend - talk about a rude awakening. I've been blogging in the same format for 6 years and now you change on me!? Come on, Google, I thought I knew you. Come to think of it I'm a little thrown off on everything today. I got in last night from my trip to Alabama around 2 am and was up at 7:30 for my full day of class - God didn't rest on Monday and neither did I! I didn't even get to shower until this afternoon (Sincere apologies to those who had to be near me today - I wasn't reeking by choice.) But let's stop complaining...this weekend was nothing short was absolutely, positively, fantastical. From start to finish I had an absolute blast despite having little bouts of stress/anxiety about racing, which comes with the territory. Let's start from the beginning. I didn't finish packing until around midnight the night before we left at 3:00 am. Not the best method b...
I know I still have to blog extensively about nationals but I just woke up from a nap that included yet another triathlon dream and I just had to blog about it. First of all the swim was in a marsh and it consisted of only pros (either I was a pro or I was the only amateur racing with the pros..) They were doing the 5 second count down and I look down into the water to discover lots of caps and goggles floating just below the surface - including mine. I frantically try to grab it and put them on but they keep floating just out of my reach. The buzzer goes off, everyone takes off like minnows in a net... Katie is still putting on her cap and goggles - now covered in pond gook. I get them on and start swimming and as I put my face under the water it turns into an ocean scene - complete with the creepy ocean fish, not the pretty ones. I find myself in the front of the pack (Suddenly I'm a great swimmer now?) The entire swim is in 3 ft water and below us float various bike part...

Books and Nationals and Songs and Things

Perfect example of a direct relationship: The more I have to do, the more I blog. Maybe I'm procrastinating, or maybe I have more to think about, and therefore am more inspired to write. Let's pick the latter, shall we? It's not so bad, think of it this way: the more I blog, the more material I have to write my comedic self-help book. Which will happen...some day. I'm thinking it's going to be a wittier Carrie Bradshaw style book geared towards triathletes/people who like funny stuff. Yeah...it'll probably end up in the clearance section of Costco and have 2 buyers: my mom and my grandma, both of which will proclaim to the world it's the best book since Hemingway. My sister will borrow it from my mom and then send me a text that says, "Too funny! Xoxo!" My older brother will lie and say he read it, and my little brother will get a free copy and use it as a coaster. Dad will have absolutely no idea I wrote a book and will first hear about it 3 weeks...

Sir Handsome Henry the Great

Alright, so I can finally tell you guys what I was talking about a couple blog posts ago when I said exciting things were happening but I didn't wait to write about it yet! Ready!? It's official - I adopted a coonhound pup named Henry! Henry is a 1 1/2 year old rescue from Tennessee. He was found wandering the streets/woods in January starved, emaciated, and crawling with fleas to the point where they thought he was going to die. He also had a lot of hair missing because he laid on concrete for days at a time. In the south, coonhounds are so common that they usually give them 2 days to be adopted in the pound before killing them, so there are some organizations that go to the south and bring them to other parts of the country for a chance at a better life. Ann from Northeast Coonhound rescue got Henry at the end of January and placed him in a foster home where he's been living the past couple months. Most dogs from this rescue get adopted within a couple weeks but for s...

To Do

I'm writing my to-do list in my blog to hold myself accountable. Usually I meticulously write them out on post-its and stick them all over my desk...but I've started to include stuff I've already done purely for the satisfaction of crossing it off...so they've turned pretty useless. I think it's a side effect of senior-itis (Still raging, still no cure). SO HERE WE GO: 1. Finish math homework (I still call it math homework. Speech pathology does not require math with fancy titles such as "Complex Variables and Applications" or "Differential Equations" or "Biostatistics" Math is math, stop trying to make it more than it is, people. I believe in addition, subtraction, and TI-84+ Silver Edition calculators.) 2. Completely pack up Mister Mac. -- For those of you who don't know..Mister Mac is my beloved Specialized Tarmac. He needs to be in a bike box, safe and sound by 4:30 tomorrow 3. Write a pack list ....Yes, I do indeed make li...

Boston Marathon Weekend '12

I'm so exhausted from this weekend I feel like I could sleep for 24 hours - unfortunately as per usual that's not an option. I wouldn't do it anyway, 11 hours seems to be my absolute slumber plateau. And that's only reserved for special occasions. It started off early at the ass crack of dawn with me crawling out of bed to catch a 6:45 am T-ride to Seaport. Interesting crowd on the sub-7 am T...happy I don't have to do it every day. I did make friends with a delightful homeless man who was inquiring about my shoes. Who knew lime green fastwitches could be so popular? Seaport is where the 2012 Boston Expo was held (much to my dismay). It is the single most inconvenient place to get to in the world. Fact. Instead of being at the normal venue, the Prudential Center, located a speedy 20 minute walk from BU's west campus, it's located a dreary 45 minute T ride + 15 minute walk. I'm not quite sure how I looked at 6:45 in the morning on the T but I wouldn...

Updates!

Oh man blog readers I'm sorry I've neglected you the past two weeks! So many updates! First and foremost: I chose Utah State University for grad school and accepted their offer of an emphasis in Listening and Spoken Language! Not just because of the massive amount of tuition help/stipend/job opportunities, but because I'd get to work with adorable little kids and it's actually really interesting. And I have an audiologist at my fingertips to call for help! Yay siblings! I love ears! Especially widdle kid ones - so cute. Anyway. It's a really great program, I'm already in love with the professors there and have been talking on the phone/e-mailing constantly with them (most helpful/sweet people on the face of the planet), and googling Utah like a madwoman. Some pictures of my new campus...not gonna lie, I'm kind of digging the change from the Boston skyline: Mountain's majesty indeed. Secondly: That means in exactly 1 month and 2 weeks I'll...
