Park City Trip and Moving

I just got home from the most relaxing few days in the history of the world - or at least on record. I spent Tuesday-Friday in Park City, Utah at my friend Lizzie's beautiful home. For 3 days I did nothing but eat, run, and watch the Olympics - literally. We made pizza and fajitas, sat and watched. My room was in the basement "cave" and slept at least 9 hours a night...who doesn't need that!? On the day that we actually did something productive with ours lives, we went to Provo, Utah to visit Lizzie's old campus, BYU, hang out with some of her college friends, and float the Provo Canyon river.  Me and Lizzie in our tubes  So pretty! How beautiful is all of that!? It took us 2 hours to float down the river - and only $10! If you've never floated a river in Utah or Colorado, it comes highly recommended. The water is freezing, obviously, but it's hot and dry enough to feel really nice. I had a blast in Provo - it's so beautiful. ...

Cycling Love

I had the best bike ride yesterday! I did 20 miles easy as the sun was setting. It's times like those that I fall back in love with cycling all over again. And now for an artsy photo of the bike of my life - Mister Mac

Ready for my close up

This morning I did a promotional video for my graduate program. Why they chose me for it, the world may never know. Certainly not for my articulate way with words. It included: 1. Sweating through my button up before I even got there. I told the guys shootings that I'd do anything except raise my arms. Seriously. The pink linen shirt in July was a gem of an idea - I left my brain in Boston. 2. Sitting oh-so-casually outside on a wooden chair facing the sun. Au naturale! Doesn't every school have wooden chairs casually spread out on campus? "Look natural." 3. A bee swarm. They sat me next to a bed of flowers...I was lookin' quite sketchy as I eyeballed the little buggers. Nobody likes shifty eyes, and mine were the shiftiest. 4. Several "do overs" - I swear I speak English, yet somehow I final myself talking like Yoda..."Come to Utah, I did." Or Chewbacca. 5. Biting my tongue so I didn't answer the questions sarcasti...

Marathon number 3 training: Day 1

2 days ago I had the horrible realization that my marathon is on September 15th - not 29th as I originally thought. If any of my readers has every run or trained for a marathon, you know that this is a catastrophic realization! 2 weeks less of training time!? Katie you are such a duntz! Use your calendars! USE THEM! It was 11 at night and I almost jumped out of my bed and pulled on my running shoes out of shear terror. But, always being the cool-headed person I am (ha.) I rolled over and went back to sleep - okay I rolled over and watched another episode of Jersey Shore - don't judge, I'm on vacation. Sue me for wanting a little trashy TV. Immediately I whipped out my ever handy iPad (when I got it I didn't think I'd use it and now it has become permanently glued to my hand - look how technologically trendy I am!) and started mapping out my training plan. Turns out I realized just in the nick of time because  I have exactly enough weekends to squeeze in a 13 mile run,...

I lost it in the blender aisle

A particularly artistic photo of me riding the struggle-bus in my cubicle wearing button up ruffle shirt. And yes that's a poof I'm sporting. I wear my hair up in a ponytail so much I forgot how long it was. And I always feel ridiculous when I dress up in the whole "business-casual" attire. Kind of like a penguin, or a little kid playing dress up. I'm also wearing fancy flats. Fancy because they're leather and have a little sparkly diamond thingy on them. And no laces. Shoes without laces exist? Who knew. Considering I have 10+ pairs of shoes with laces, and about 2 without laces, you can't expect a girl to know these things exist in the real world. You know those girls who walk by in their business suits, all put together and gorgeous and doing the whole cat walk thing with starbucks in their hand and a trendy cell phone in the other? They wake up and piss excellence. And you think "Wow. She looks fabulous. She looks like she's going to kick ...

Me and My Rex

I'm not huge on the whole "take pictures of yourself" thing - but my lack of friends in Utah who mountain bike and run leave me no choice. I wanted to post some pictures of me representing my BU triathlon team pride in my jersey and my new love, Rex the mountain bike. Yes I do indeed mountain bike in a full triathlon kit - trust me it's been commented on before by my dad friends (I use the term "friends" loosely here) from the local bike club. The conversation went a bit like this: Dad - So were you on a cycling team back east? Me - No, but I was on a triathlon team and we did group rides Dad - Yeah....I noticed the no sleeve jersey. Well excuuuuse me. First of all, it's a kit. Not a jersey. Second of all....Question: However do you manage to ride that $6,000 carbon aero-frame bike with that giant stick wedged up your ass? I had no idea I that someone would ever judge me purely based up on my apparel of choice. Alright fine, I'll admit that ...

Oh goodness.

It seems I've worried the general public with my last post. I woke up to an e-mail from my mother telling me I'm probably just PMS'ing and not to panic, and my best friend Kristy said I seem sad and she's worried. My blog post was even depressing enough for Australian pro-triathlete Sam Betten to send me a little "wishing you the best" twitter post. Oy (that is only to be said in an Australian accent - btw. Do your best.) Lighten up people! I know that 99% of the time I'm showering the world with unnecessary amounts of smiles and have a tendency to annoy people with my unending amounts of positive energy and enthusiasm for the genuinely mundane aspects of life - but I'm allowed to be pensive and sad too, you know! I had no idea that people took my blog posts to heart - I'm going to have to filter a bit more so no one scoops me up and throws me into rehab. So, onto more positive things! Because it seems that my followers depend on it. Hey, we al...
