Today the plan to go for a 35 mile bike ride and then go to Taste for breakfast was cut short by some bike problems - so obnoxious! I can tell Chris is getting really frustrated with this whole situation - and who can blame him? A triathlete literally depends on his bike and when it doesn't work...well, it's just no good. It makes me so mad he spent $1,400 on a bike that after 2 years has slowly fallen apart - from components to crank. I feel like every week it's something new and totally unrelated to last week's problem, I'm close to buying him a new bike just so we can get some quality rides in! I miss my training partner. I feel so terrible for him. At first I thought he was being dramatic and getting frustrated at little things but now I'm 100% convinced he really just had the worst luck in the world with bike maintenance! It kills me to see him so frustrated with it and I know he's such a good rider, he just doesn't have working equipment to back ...

Sir Henry

I just got back from a Sir Henry shopping spree at Pet Co! I was there for over an hour picking out toys, bones, a leash, a collar, etc etc etc. I'm definitely going to bring him again when I actually get him - I think he's old enough to pick out his own toys. Yes, they make energy treats for active dogs. They're organic and apparently it's like doggy GU. Perfect! I'm pretty sure Henry is too laid back to actually chew relentlessly on kongs, stuffed animals and ropes but I bought them anyway, just in case he changes his mind. I did see him chew a paper towel roll in half, so I think he's getting it. I don't think he knows what to do with toys, or knows that they're okay to chew because he never had them as a puppy. I get so sad when I think about how different his life could have been if he hadn't been found by Coonhound Rescue. I can't stand to think about how he grew up living on the streets and in the woods and almost died from starvation....
Today something happened that I've been waiting for for a really, really long time. It's one of those things where when you first think about it, you think, "Man...some day...." Guess what people. April 27th is that day. I would have never guessed 3 1/2 years ago it would take this long - but it did. I cut it pretty close to the end there though, I mean I graduate in 2 weeks. I was getting nervous it would never happen. But it happened, and it's great! Curious yet? I knew you would be - you're so nosy. Okay well. Today is the day *drum roll* I got to prove to Omelet Lady Nicole that I'm not just another inconsiderate stupid BU biddie! Impressive, right!? I know! I'm excited too! I'm sensing you're not excited. Fine, I'll explain further. Omelet Lady Nicole is a legend in BU west campus. She works weekday mornings and makes the most perfect, beautiful, delicious omelets in the world. Hands down. I've tried to recreate her magic ...

Never let me have a credit card

Remember that one time I said I was going to try out that new thing called budgeting? Well. All I can say is oops! I'll try better next time. Turns out having to leave your job at the running store/realizing you're losing your discount and access to 3point5 leads to some pretty nasty shopping sprees. Or should I say pretty awesome shopping sprees? Pretty epic shopping sprees? Think about it: Never again will I be able to get $180 jacket for $70. ...or maybe someday I'll be so wealthy it doesn't matter... Regardless. I spent a gnarly (yes, gnarly) amount of money buying new jackets for Utah. For everything I bought I could justify it with, "I could SO see myself wearing this in Utah!" or "People definitely wear this in Utah!" Here's the damage:   I am quite aware I just bought 5 new jackets. But let me explain: They go from "light morning spring run" jacket to "it's -30 degrees out and I'm going biking!" jac...

Nationals!

I'm a little thrown off because my entire blog page format changed on me over the weekend - talk about a rude awakening. I've been blogging in the same format for 6 years and now you change on me!? Come on, Google, I thought I knew you. Come to think of it I'm a little thrown off on everything today. I got in last night from my trip to Alabama around 2 am and was up at 7:30 for my full day of class - God didn't rest on Monday and neither did I! I didn't even get to shower until this afternoon (Sincere apologies to those who had to be near me today - I wasn't reeking by choice.) But let's stop complaining...this weekend was nothing short was absolutely, positively, fantastical. From start to finish I had an absolute blast despite having little bouts of stress/anxiety about racing, which comes with the territory. Let's start from the beginning. I didn't finish packing until around midnight the night before we left at 3:00 am. Not the best method b...
I know I still have to blog extensively about nationals but I just woke up from a nap that included yet another triathlon dream and I just had to blog about it. First of all the swim was in a marsh and it consisted of only pros (either I was a pro or I was the only amateur racing with the pros..) They were doing the 5 second count down and I look down into the water to discover lots of caps and goggles floating just below the surface - including mine. I frantically try to grab it and put them on but they keep floating just out of my reach. The buzzer goes off, everyone takes off like minnows in a net... Katie is still putting on her cap and goggles - now covered in pond gook. I get them on and start swimming and as I put my face under the water it turns into an ocean scene - complete with the creepy ocean fish, not the pretty ones. I find myself in the front of the pack (Suddenly I'm a great swimmer now?) The entire swim is in 3 ft water and below us float various bike part...

Books and Nationals and Songs and Things

Perfect example of a direct relationship: The more I have to do, the more I blog. Maybe I'm procrastinating, or maybe I have more to think about, and therefore am more inspired to write. Let's pick the latter, shall we? It's not so bad, think of it this way: the more I blog, the more material I have to write my comedic self-help book. Which will happen...some day. I'm thinking it's going to be a wittier Carrie Bradshaw style book geared towards triathletes/people who like funny stuff. Yeah...it'll probably end up in the clearance section of Costco and have 2 buyers: my mom and my grandma, both of which will proclaim to the world it's the best book since Hemingway. My sister will borrow it from my mom and then send me a text that says, "Too funny! Xoxo!" My older brother will lie and say he read it, and my little brother will get a free copy and use it as a coaster. Dad will have absolutely no idea I wrote a book and will first hear about it 3 weeks...
