USU

Found out yesterday Utah State is offering me a $15,000 scholarship to get my masters degree there. I'm slowly but surely running out of reasons to not move to Utah in less than 2 months, regardless of whether or not I get into U. Utah or the Florida schools. I keep going back and forth between being wanting to move as soon as possible and being terrified out of my mind to blindly move to a small city in northern Utah that I've never stepped foot in.

Moving

I'm writing this blog as a preface to another blog I'm going to write later when I'm feeling more eloquent. But this weekend I'm going to ponder it in that ever-expanding bean of mine. Why is it I've spent 4 years in Boston and have no problem uprooting everything and moving across the country?  Does it reflect that I'm independent or disconnected from my environment? A lot of people in the world get very attached to things, to people, to possessions, to a place. I'm not sure if it's the circumstance of who I've met, what I have, or where I've lived, but I've never felt that. I've joked that I feel more attached to my bike than 95% of the people I've met - which is sad, but so many ways, true. Maybe it's the way I was raised. My mom always taught me to be independent, to be able to live 100% on my own, to always look out for number one. If someone was disrespecting me or making me feel anything less than what I thought I was, s...

How Aero of Me

NEW AERO HELMET! I've wanted one of these for forever and I finally bought one off my friend Ian for $50 (For a $330 helmet, I'd say that's the best bargain I've ever gotten). To be worn like this: Not this: Whew. Good things I knew that one. If I put my helmet on like that it would almost be as bad as that time I went to Walden with Max, Colin, and Dave and put Dave's wetsuit on inside out. Yes, that happened. Whatta nube I was. Anyway, Nanc and Mark should have no problem whatsoever spotting me at Nationals. Love, Me

When Katie Sleeps

I'm thinking of starting a new blog series called "When Katie Sleeps". Sometimes when I sleep over at Chris' and he wakes up at 5 am for ROTC apparently I say some weird things. The latest: (The alarm goes off) Katie: WHY!?!?!? Katie: I don't care about your hands just come back to me. Katie: Did you go to the party? Chris: What party? Katie: The party last night. Did you go? They were here. (Got up to go to the bathroom) Chris: Katie! What are you doing? Are you escaping? Katie: I was waiting until you left so I could escape (Glasses crooked, one eye closed) Chris: Oh really? Katie: Move I have to pee. And apparently sometimes I just stretch my arms out and make odd "come hither" movements with my hands Other times when I sleep at my place and Iz comes home late from doing work I ask her if she did math and if it was fun, if she went to the party (apparently I think there's a lot of parties that go on while I'm sleeping), and ...

GoPro

This weekend Chris and I went his house in western mass. for some well-deserved R&R - kind of. We actually spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday completely beating down our legs to the point where I had a little bit of trouble falling asleep because I felt so uncomfortable in my skin. Friday I skipped my guitar class (oops) because it was a sunny 80 degrees and I had a rough week of filling out fellowship applications, working 3 days, and a long afternoon at my internship. When it comes between dealing with a 'I-snort-when-I-laugh' failed musician with a receding hairline who has a severe case of little man's syndrome and an 8 mile run to the science museum/through the Fens...there's no comparison. I hate playing Norwegian Wood by the Beatles and I hate that near-tears feeling I get when I leave music class. And I love that drenched in sweat, aching feeling I have after a hard run. I can learn guitar tabs online. I don't need this guy's crap. So I gave into my...

Thursdays

And here it is another gorgeous day in Boston - the sun is shining, there's an ever-so-gentle breeze blowing, and not a cloud in sight. Of course I'm going to run at least ten miles today or get lost in Dover all afternoon with Mac! Reality check. Actually I'm putting on my big girl clothes and heading to the hospital until tonight. I should have appreciated days like today more when I was younger and my biggest concern was which materials I was going to construct my backyard fort out of. I feel completely robbed. This further supports my life-plan to be an extremely educated, extremely smart woman with loads of potential and prestigious job opportunities...who becomes disgustingly wealthy by inventing something completely useless that everyone in the world thinks they need, opens a free clinic in the middle of nowhere, works part time rolling on the floor with little babies, brings her dogs to work, and spends the majority of her days running and biking around the we...

Nothin' Like a CJ Girl

Today I got a message from one of my best friends at home, KatieHart (one word, not two) and she signed it, "Love, Purple Katie." Not going to even lie a little bit, I definitely teared up a bit. Though it was almost 8 years ago when we all met each other at cheer camp, yes, I said cheer camp, it seems like just yesterday I was stretching in a circle with the girls who would soon become some of my dearest friends. Mel, KR, and KatieHart were all there. Later I'd meet Molls, KP, Rach, Riley, Corinne, and Mary (I think in freshman choir?) We weren't even 15 yet but we thought we had the world figured out. Well, judging by the fact that I was in choir, on a cheerleading squad, and fully convinced I was going to marry my highschool boyfriend, it's safe to say I didn't figure things out until much, much later. In fact, still figuring. I'll keep you posted on that one. I just can't get over where we all are now and how different we all are now. How we'v...
