Today I decided I wanted to be faster

I ran 2 miles in 00:12:39:86. The fastest I've ever done it! I'm not sure why I decided to run tonight, I definitely wasn't planning on it. I found out it's exactly 2 miles to the Mass Ave bridge..and once I found that out, it's like I had absolutely no choice. My heart rate was already up even before I put my Zoots on. I think I'm programmed to do this. To air is human, to run is Katie. Let's hope I can keep it up for Saturday's race!!! love love love, me

Soul mates

On my 6 mile walk to and from the lab in 94 degree weather today I was quite literally frying myself to the point of third degree burn. Oh don't worry though, I had a portable pool around me - no, not the blow up kind. The sweat kind. Good thing my visceral system is up and running- go secretory glands go! Okay enough of the physiology of the human - sweat is awesome and all, 90% of the time I'm bathed in it by choice, but when I'm sweating all over my corpus coliseum drawing, causing the ink to run down and onto the brain stem, I get a little ticked off. Anyway, to distract myself from training for a Sahara Desert trek, I started to blog in my head - which I do a lot. Mostly when I'm cycling. So far, I'm working one entitled: There are Two Types of Men in the World: Golfers and Fisherman Inspired by, yup, you guessed it, mama dearest. But I'm not blogging about that today, mostly because it's not done yet. I'll keep you posted, though. Today the top...

Thus far my room situation has been suprapar. Okay I just made that word up using my recently memorized medical prefixes and suffixes. Supra means beyond and par means average so therefore: Suprapar is beyond average. Hopefully I'm not saying like...SUPER AVERAGE! As in just about as average as you can get, but more of a better than average. Basically I'm saying it's great. I was a little apprehensive living with Colin, to say the least. Not that his conservative Catholic, ROTC, training-obsessed little self isn't entertaining as all hell or anything...but him and I are very different in many ways. Plus we are over competitive with each other, to say that least. And he eats weird food. But other than those little quirks, he's clean, he takes out the trash, he's quiet, and he comes with a bike rack and trainer. He also keeps me motivated to train because lets face it, I can't stand to see him train and feel like a lazy piece. My other roomie Cait was also a c...

Apartment Eating

I officially have a new appreciation for all moms in the world, or dads for that matter. I find it hard enough to clean up after myself...much less after a kid or dog or spouse or what have you. When you're on you're own, simply LIVING is exhausting. I DO find myself eating the ODDEST things though, especially when I come home and I'm too exhausted to make something. Dinners the past two weeks have included, but was certainly not limited to: -Tortilla dipped in jelly - not even jelly spread on it, literally just taking the jelly jar, standing in front of the fridge and dipping a tortilla in it -Runny eggs eaten directly out of the frying pan because I didn't want to wash a plate -Veggie burger without a bun - because I didn't feel like bending over to get the bread off the bottom shelf -A mixed drink (Dole juice and vodka) with mixed fruit in it - a personal all time low, not proud of this one. -GU Recovery Brew...because who DOESN'T want pure protein Flavored a...
So the first 5 days in the apartment have been awesome, the only thing I didn't like was waking up to an empty room because Colin went to the pool early and Caitlin isn't moved in yet. Playing house with Chris was hilarious, in a, "okay hunnie you go to the grocery store, I'll do the dishes and take out the trash" honeymoon frame of mind kind of way. In all seriousness though, we work really well together...I think because we both have no problem pulling our own weight, okay and also we're borderline obsessed with each other. But regardless, having him around was awesome and I miss it. I actually have to do the dishes now. And I keep talking to myself. Damn.

Grown Up Things

So the reason I haven't blogged in 11 days, and that kills me because I was doing SO good earlier, is that I finally moved into my new apt! AH! I thought moving into a dorm was big news, this is HUGE! Well actually the apartment is medium, and my room is on the larger side of medium, but I freaking LOVe this place. Sure, the floors turn my feet black, the stove belongs in the dumpster, or a modern art museum, the food residue stuck to the inside of the fridge could have supported a third world country, and I don't even want to get started on the bathroom - the bugs speak for themselves. The 2 legs of the table were completely broken off, the couch in the family room collapses in so if you even want to think about sitting on it, you have to perch on the frame, and the shower curtain has mold on it. There's a random frig from 70's in the hallway and a random door in my room that is nailed shut - no hope of ever opening again. The carpet in the hallway has no hope of ever ...

I'm alive

I haven't died I promise. It's been TEN DAYS SINCE MY LAST POST!? Time gets away from you some times...I don't have time to blog right now because I have work in half an hour and I'm no where near ready to get ready for it. But I just wanted to let you know, whoever you are, that I have lots to blog about and I will be back tomorrow...or maybe later tonight. I love my new apartment, my triathlon race on Sunday went awesome, work is amazing as usual, and I can't wait for it to be warmer again!!! More soon, Love love love, me
