Survey says? I was right.

The whole shit/fan thing? Yeah...it happened. I knew it! This week one year from now I refuse to go out, abso-fucking-lutely over my dead body not!!!
Absolutely nothing this weekend went the way I expected it, just looove when God throws me curve balls. But, this just in: I suck at baseball. I was the girl staring at clouds and braiding flowers and spinning in circles in the outfield. I also screamed and ducked when the hoss of a girl "pitched" the ball. The coach loved me.
Okay truth? Over all the weekend wasn't a complete train wreck. Friday was well, it threw me for a loop....Actually I'm still in denial about Friday. No, not even denial...I'm down right pretending it never existed. I will just never understand some things in this world, and I guess that is just something I have to accept. Some endeavors are just completely pointless, but regardless they have to be tried, just in case for some odd/shot in hell chance it turns out to be completely opposite of how you thought it would end up. But, as I knew deep down all along, it didn't end up being any different than I thought it would be.
It was actually relatively painless, all things considered - kind of one of those, "...that's it?" moments. Like when you get a shot. Waking up with dread, you build yourself up for it. You sweat in the waiting room, you're twitchy and irritable and there's no way you can read the 1999 People Magazine in the waiting room. You sit and the nurse pulls up your sleeve and disinfects your arm, maybe putting a rubber band around it. You see the HUGE needle and the only thing you can think of is your last wishes and, "fuck." But, "3..2.."STAB! And 3 seconds (or...in my case...2 minutes) later, it's all over.
Then you get a sucker! ...except I didn't get a sucker.
So, after I got all the "answers" I needed, Saturday I woke up early and did some track sprints, then had a really awesome day at work today even though I took a poll -of just me- and concluded 8 hours is WAY too long to be on my feet. But I absolutely love helping customers with everything and working in running shoes is the BEST. I'm learning so much about stuff I absolutely am obsessed with.
And I sell like a beast because I'm, "perky and friendly and have a slight southern accent" - the people are drawn to it =)
The only problem is I was so completely exhausted from work that I came home and crashed and did absolutely no studying for my exam Monday...my bad. That's what tomorrow is for.
And I also keep buying stuff! I can't help it, it's really bad. Okay well actually, I definitely needed new running shoes so I bought the same pair as my old running shoes only the new version and, guess what!? They're red and white a.k.a they match Dr. Jones - perfect!!! Couldn't wipe the smile off my face for nothin'. Color coordination is my favorite.
And my compression socks and UnderArmor tights? COMPLETELY necessary.
So is my $120 Timex heart rate watch....
And my new tubes.
Oh and I'm getting Vibram Five Fingers and take a stab at barefoot running...I sold 11 pairs of them today.

Going to bed - waking up super early to cycle tomorrow!

Stop Shoulding all over yourself

Yesterday I went on Cor Jesu's Vivare "young alumni" retreat. My friend from high school Katie posted it on my wall a few weeks ago and tagged a couple other CJ sisters to the post and it struck my interest. I haven't done a single thing with CJ since I graduated and somewhere between moving to Boston and joining the triathlon team my Catholic past was put on the backburner. I figured I had nothing to lose except a Saturday and at the very least I'd get to hang out with my friends so I signed up and sent in my $25 without much thought.  I've never been the most devout Catholic. Most times in church I'm scanning the crowd for familiar faces, zoning out, and making Target lists- and that's if I go at all. Sunday is usually run-day...or ski day. Or sleep in day. Or study day. Or vacuum day. Whatever day it is...it's rarely church day. Despite being raised by two Catholic parents, going to a Catholic grade school and a Catholic high school, going o...

A Near Miss

I may have spoken too soon when I said that Kirkwood library was my spot. Here I am comfortably doing my speech-pathology work when out of nowhere: We took the square route of this and put it here and here and put it there and there.  My ears tuned in and I raised my head. I sniffed the air and suspiciously scanned the area. Yep. Math. Immediately I broke out in a sweat. Hands started shaking. Eyes twitched. Jaw clenched and neck twisted. Vomit literally came up my esophagus. Pavlov conditioning in it's purest form.  So this times this gives you this and this times this gives you that.  Focus, Katie. Hmm....a 2 year old with hearing loss who is struggling with some final consonant deletion, some stopping of fricatives, some devoicing? Now that, I am good at.... Now do you see inside your parenthesis that there is a difference of squares? No I don't see, lady. That past is long behind me and I'm never going back.  Right now I'm transcribing, identifying ...
First mountain bike ride = SUCCESS! Rex and I rode 18 miles this morning. We did the Logan river trail for about 14 then we rode around town stopping into some bike shops looking at pedals and mountain biking shoes. It'll be a few weeks before I actually buy a pair but I want to get an idea of what's out there - just like road cycling, clipless pedals change everything. With regular pedals, the rider can only get movement forward by pushing down. With clipless pedals, the rider's foot is attached to the bike so you can push down and pull up, which makes climbing and accelerating completely different. I absolutely love my pedals on Mr. Mac so Rex should have a pair, too. The ride was awesome though. The thing I like about mountain biking is that it's a nice blend between trail running and road cycling. You get to the distance of cycling but you get to be close with nature like you do running. It's absolutely perfect. I even had my very first crash today! I w...
