Bikes

Dear worldly citizens, I am now officially accepting donations for my mountain bike fund. Feel free to donate any amount that your heart tells you. And if that doesn't tempt you? Perhaps this puppy will pull at your heart strings in a way that makes you just desperate enough to do something a little crazy - like send me some full suspension and some carbon. I actually that's what my face looks like when I see people riding by on a really nice mountain bike.  It's either that puppy, or this bird: Probably because all the people that ride past me on a $1,000+ mountain bike are 1 of 4 things: chunky, not riding on a trail (which is where mountain bikes are meant to be...duh), retired, or looking like they're going to keel over on their side any minute from moving so slow.  My thoughts? "GIVE THAT FINE PIECE OF CARBON TO SOMEONE WHO DESERVES IT! Ohhhh hayyyy!!!!"  *sigh* ...one day. Until then, I'll enjoy my bike rides with my o...

Ducks on a Run

Real quick post! Last night I got home from class around 4:30, passed out until 6:30, woke up and went for a run. I was planning on doing around 4 but it felt so good to be out in the fresh air and moving I went ahead and added a few miles. So I'm around mile 6 in this really nice neighborhood, just joggin' along the sidewalk having a merry old time - jammin' to some Talking Heads, not really paying attention. And I'm runnin' and runnin' and looking at the houses. Now people in Logan have the oddest things in their front yards- lawn gnomes, scarecrows dressed up like high school graduates, gardens that could put Martha Stewart to shame, horses, cows, pigs, etc etc etc. So I'm lovin' looking around at all the stuff. At the last second as I approach this house I notice these 3 plastic ducks sitting around a mail box, and I oogle at how realistic they look. So I look down and stare as I pass, obviously. Well, they looked realistic because they were real. ...

Grad School

I'm sorry I haven't blogged! The past week my life has been 100% consumed by school - literally. I wake up at 6, do work until 8, go to class from 8-12, have a 1 hour break where I sit in my cubicle and do work, go to class from 1-5 and then come home, work out (maybe...if I can muster the energy) then do work until 10 or 11, go to bed and do it all over again. I was craving Friday like a pregnant woman craves fried pickles until I realized that this Friday we have the Sound Beginnings summer camp from 8-4. Good thing I love it. I think? So Saturday. Saturday I'm going to sleep in, stare at a wall, eat a decent meal, and maybe go for a walk. I might even get to go for a bike ride! Oh the luxury. Why did I chose to go to grad school? I was delusional and naive. But all is well, besides not having time to do anything except read read read, do projects, papers, study guides, and study- including going to the grocery store and run errands - it's really not that bad. The...

First Ride in Utah!

...and then this happened God I love Utah.

Grad school: Day 1

Wow. Just wow. Words can't even express how in love with and how much I am blown away by Utah State. Coming here was by far the best decision I've ever made in my life. Not only is it absolutely stunning - and I mean ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. But the people are incredibly nice and campus is out of this world. Yesterday I dropped mom off at the airport and pretty much cried the entire way home - I said before I would allow myself TWO cries this summer. And I already used one. So the next one has got to be a good one. But after two phone calls - first one to Christopher and then later one to Ian - solved everything and made me feel much better. Of course Christopher tried to be my knight in shining armor and offered to fly out next week to help me out but I know that this is something I need to do on my own. As much as I love Chris for always making things 100% easier for me and always being there, I know that if I let him fix everything I'll never be able to do things on my own...

That college thing I did

Once again I'm sorry for ignoring you, my small but loyal fanbase. I've been blogging a lot in  Henry's Blog   - not because I prefer it over my own blog, but because it's a lot easier to write about Henry eating dead chipmunks than to write about graduating college. Soooo graduating college....college graduation....college graduate. Yeah, I actually don't have much to say. I came, I studied, I conquered. My college career actually has rather nice bookends: Mom and dad drove me with all my stuff from Saint Louis to Boston in a trailblazer, and now, 4 years later, mom and dad are driving me from Boston to Saint Louis in a trailblazer. I love things that come full circle! So instead of getting all sappy and talking about how much I learned and how much I love my friends and how much I'm going to miss college... I thought I would compile a list of things I never thought I would do in college that I did: 1. Compete in 20+ triathlons 2. Go to collegiate tria...
Just finished my LAST class of my undergraduate career! And it was, of course, math class *twitch*. God really does have the best sense of humor - "Numbers have always caused Katie to go into hysterical fits of composed of both crying and laughing, let's have that be her last college class memory." Duped by God again! How does he know!? I'll get him some day. Not shockingly it was actually 100% anti-climactic. No fireworks, confetti, or whales jumping. Obama didn't hand me an award on my way out the door and the Pope wasn't there to bless my exit from the building. Just Professor Burke trying to squeeze in oneeee last problem before we went into 5 min overtime. Actually, she might as well be a god, she DID get me to, at the very least, tolerate numbers this semester. I think our good relationship stemmed from when I discovered she was a cyclist and we talked nonstop about bikes for half an hour after class. Or maybe it was when I found out she went to Berkle...
