In light of Valentine's Day...

So despite the fact that I had a dream last night that Chris died and I couldn't get ahold of Db for comfort (even my dream-self should've known...he never answers his phone.)....today has been a pretty awesome day. No big plans, no balloons or flowers or singing Cupids (thank God). I have to practice guitar, study, and work but Chris and I are going for a run and then out for icecream. Simple. Just like I like it. But because it's that time where everyone expresses in an embarrassing way their love for their significant other...here's a link to a song for my Valentine. I love you Christopher

Feeling Twain-y

I'm in such a Mark Twain mood tonight. I'm reading some of his writings and he's just so spot on. Not only is he refreshingly eloquent but he also has this air of wit and sarcasm that you just don't come by anymore. I guess my love for Twain originated not in his novels, but in the fact that my childhood crush, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, starred in Huckleberry Finn... that is, until my mom found his picture in my pillow case and taped it in my babybook under "Katie's first love" and teased me incessantly - nevermind, th at's not the point.  Here's my list of top 10 favorite Mark Twain quotes. I love these quotes, maybe you will too. 1. Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear. 2.  It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. 3.  Keep away from those who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you believe...

My Guitar is the Reason for My Teardrops on my Guitar

I bet Taylor Swifts teardrops on her guitar weren't really from a boy. I bet they were from being so frustrated with trying to learn how to strum she bursts into tears. At least that's what my teardrops on my guitar are from. I think I need to apologize to Leopard for getting her soaking wet. I just can't help it, I sound so awful I just cry. I need to stop being such a type A perfectionist and start being a little more relaxed...otherwise this guitar might face defenestration. love love love, me

Miles of Trials

Yesterday at Citysports while rearranging the entire shoe stock room, a mind-boggling and tedious undertaking in and of itself, I was a little abraded yet nonetheless interested when a coworker of mine started talking about running. He said he would occasionally flat out run a mile as fast as he could and was satisfied with that. Not that I'm a running snob or anything, to each his own, but he then preceded to challenge me on my mile time and began to get a little hostile when I said I had absolutely no idea, which is the truth. He seemed absolutely beside himself that I had no idea, as though every 'serious' runner should know their mile time down to the fastest second. I was a actually a little put off by his questioning and I felt a little cornered, to say the least. I know he didn't mean anything by it, his personality is a little coarse to begin with, and I know I'm a sensitive person, but it really got me thinking. I don't run for my fastest mile time, wh...

Sum-more anxiety

I have some anxiety I need help with. It's not so much graduation...I feel like I took everything that BU could offer me and ran with it (literally...ran...many miles.) I feel like I'm ready to be done with college but it's kind of the 'after' part thats bugging me. I'm not thinking long term here because I know I'll be in grad school next year and even if I'm not I know long term I'll be just fine, wherever I end up, but it's that thing called summer that's making me anxious. I know my only option is to get a job somewhere. But where? Do I really want to move back to STL? I honestly feel like there's nothing left there for me except my mom, dad and 2 brothers. My sister lives in Florida, my boyfriend will be in Massachusetts, my best friends and everyone I care about is spread all over the country...Massachusetts, California, New York, Texas, DC...and I don't even have a job that I would want to get. What can I really get into for 3 ...

Adult Things

For the past 3 years while here in Boston I've lived pretty damn well, shamelessly spending cash here and there, mostly on new triathlon gear but pretty much on everything else that catches my eye. I go out to eat almost every week, hit up the bars every other Friday or so, and often treat myself to coffee on Newbury and those awesomely functional running shorts I've had my eye on for all of 5 minutes. I spend about $800/year on race entry fees alone, including marathons, half marathons, triathlons, 5ks, 10ks, and indoor time trials. I didn't think twice when I bought a $100 bike fit, a $300 GoPro camera, 3 new pairs of running shoes, an almost $200 North Face zip-up, a new computer, a new phone, a $150 cycling rain jacket, an Osprey pack for overnight backpacking trips, new tires for Mac, and about 100 other little things I absolutely could not function without. And don't even get me started on how much I've spent at Sunset Cantina on their margaritas and nachos. S...

Studies

Senioritis: It comes on slowly and infiltrates the system. The past 3 years I've been nothing but prolific in my studies...however the past 3 weeks? Well, lets just say I had an exam today that I started studying for...today. This morning actually. While I was eating lunch. Then I studied a bit in the classroom right before the exam while simultaneously reading an article about how Contador blood doped during the 2010 Tour. So...study? Or read about how Andy Schleck, 2nd love of my life, is now the 2010 Tour champion? Study...Andy....Study...Andy.... Schleck me! The GOOD news is I'll already be accepted (or denied - yeesh, scary thought) from my grad schools by the time grades come out. As they say in baseball.....SAFE!
