52 and Running

52. Now 52 is a very important number. Not only is it divisible by 2, 4, 13, and 24, but it's also 2 more than halfway to 100 and 16 more than 36. There are 52 weeks in a year and it just so happens to be the atomic number of tellurium. The U.S. Route 52 runs of South Carolina to North Dakota and 52 is the 5th Bell number. Oh and also there were 52 degrees in today's weather. Screw all those other facts - say what?! Yes you heard me right oh ever faithful blog-readers of mine (Hi mom...) Today, January 24, 2012, was 52 degrees out. And to think 2 days ago I forced myself to run 10 miles over snow and ice in teen-temps. Today I wore none other than my Nike shorts and my Triathlon t-shirt. I think I even got a tan. In other news, I also ran a 5k (3.1 miles) in 21:32, an ALMOST record for me. My 2012 goal is sub-21 minutes. So really, 23 days into the New Year and I'm only 32 seconds away! Not too shabby. Must've been that 100+ miles I ran over Christmas break... Not only ...
Before I delve into Evidence-Based Practice: An Examination of Its Ramifications for the Practice of Speech-Language Pathology and The Diagnostic Accuracy and Construct Validity of the Structured Photographic Expressive Language Test - Preschool: Second Edition , I thought I'd start out with a nice, simple blog post. I mean who really uses the word 'ramification' anyway? "Not I," said she. Right now I'm sitting at my computer (obviously....) deciding whether I should go to Fitrec first and spin later, or spin first and go to Fitrec later. Oh the predicaments of senior year. Actually, to be quite frank, I thought I'd have a little bit less work this semester than I do. I'm a little disappointed...I was beginning to get used to laying in my bed staring at the ceiling, tears welling up from pure boredom. I was definitely not used to it as I am a self-proclaimed, self-diagnosed, grade A work-a-holic, but it wasn't long before assignments started to f...

Guitar

WATCH OUT. Legit, I am the next Joan Jett. ...without all the tatoos, piercings, drugs...etc etc etc I had my first guitar lesson and I think I missed my calling. I absolutely love it and I absolutely have no idea what I'm doing. I can play the major chord and the Jaw's theme song. Because it's two notes. On the same string. Using the same finger. Whatever, let's not get picky. So I show up to class and no one has any idea what they're doing. Jesus bless this poor professor because 1/2 the class doesn't speak English, 1/4 of the class didn't bring a guitar (...and you were planning on strumming.....what?) and then there was me and this other girl who couldn't stop laughing the corner. Cue the class clown. Why is it always me. But everyone stopped laughing when I pulled out an almost $2,000 guitar. A bit much for a girl who doesn't even know the names of the strings? Maybe. But when do I ever do anything half way? Within a week of joining the triathlo...

Second Semester, Senior Year

Let's begin with a question: How did this happen? That's a good one. Straight forward, to the point. How eloquent. No, but honestly, truly and absolutely - how is it already my senior year of college? I feel so old and so young all at the same time. You think that's possible? Young because I still make stupid faces at myself in the mirror, get teary eyed when I watch Peter Pan, and need my afternoon nap. Young because I throw tantrums and eat too much dessert and have no sense of the loudness of my own voice. Young because I spend way too much money, pick running over just about anything, and dance around in the morning to blasting music which is probably why my neighbors don't speak to me in the elevator. Young because I still have this great sense that I'm going to do great things and have a great life, and I'm still young enough to have options and take chances without royally messing anything up. It's having that naive attitude that comes with the young...

Blessed

Oh man it's been WAY too long since I've blogged! Senior year is passing by like the T that cuts BU in half. ...That's way too fast, for those who don't live in Boston. This year has just been insanity - unorganized, discombobulated, spastic and awesome insanity. I've done so much, and I don't even remember how I did it all. How did I have time to have A's in all my classes, take the GRE, apply to 7 grad schools, run a marathon, do 2 triathlons, have a friend visit for ten days from England, and have an active social life? No wonder I'm always tired! I think on my resume under accomplishments I should be able to write "Mastered Time Management" because that's the only thing I can think of that explains how I'm still alive and kickin' right now. I think time management is one of the most valuable qualities a person can have. I don't screw around, I don't spend excessive time on the computer or internet, I don't lay in bed...
As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down... probably will. You will have your heart broken but you'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast and you'll lose someone you love. Life comes with no guarantees, no time outs, no second chances. So live life to the fullest, tell someone what they mean to you, speak out, dance in the rain, hold someone's hand, comfort a friend, fall asleep watching the sun come up, stay up late, and smile until your face hurts. Don't be afraid to take chances. Take too many pictures and love like you have never been hurt...because every second you spend upset is a moment you'll never get back.
