Couples that marathon together, stay together

He's my teammate, coach, best friend, and I'm lucky enough to call him my boyfriend

Reality Check

Chris got his job for the air force! *drum roll please* Mechanical - Developmental engineering! - WHEW. I tried not letting him know how anxious I was for his job...if he got Civil engineering he'd deploy for a year at a time every 6 months for 4 years. Ouch. But with Developmental he'll be safe in the US doing research in labs and only go on shorter trips (most likely...hopefully.) And most importantly, he's really excited about it so that makes me really excited about it! So now to choose base assignments! This is the fun part. I made a spread sheet of pros and cons of each and we're trying to figure out if he wants to do GPS research, space and rocketry, flight test engineering, or bombs (I'm not quite sure what "bombs" entails but I don't know if I like it.) Some options include: 1. Southern Cali outside Santa Barbara (I'm pulling for this one) 2. 2 bases in Colorado - would be equally awesome 3. Florida by Cape Canaveral - learn to surf, get a...
Sooo I know that all this class stuff is important and I should be appreciating the intense amount of case studies, acoustic analysis, and language samples my professors assign to me because it's only going to make me a better speech pathologist.... And I know memorizing all these different stages of development, language, and symbolic play is super relevant to my career.... Along with learning all the different disorders across all the different ages.... but honestly...all I want to do is roll on the floor with little babies and teach little kids how to read. Sometimes it's hard to keep the big picture in mind when I'm buried shoulder deep in standardized test results and data from kids I've never even met. Give me my own client BU, I'm ready! love, me

Westchester

Yesterday was my first Olympic race in a long, long time - and the first one in 2 years I actually had fun at. The only other Olympic I even had the trace of thinking, "hey this is ACTUALLY the best" is Lobsterman wayyy back when sophomore year. Last season was pretty much the worst - between getting hit by that car, losing my will to train, slipping into lazy eating- ice cream -on-the-couch mindset and hating my "twitchy" new bike...well, I never thought I was going to love racing again. After all , racing hurts. And who likes to do things that hurts? But after a summer of running hills, biking long, winding roads, and swimming in lakes in NH I'm finally back to my old self. Just as competitive, headstrong, and masochistic as ever, and that's the way I prefer me. In addition, I'm the fastest at running I've ever been! That's just a perk, though. So yesterday I relished that pre-race nauseous feeling I get as soon as I put on my wet suit. I l...

16 Miles

Today I had one of my long runs - 16 miles! It went awesome. I ran to Harvard's Arboritum which is basically a giant garden right outside the city. The miles flew by a I ran past all sorts of gardens, lakes, ponds, streams, over bridges, across dirt paths and found some pretty great trails. The even better part was it wasn't all flat like Boston tends to be, there were definitely some hills. I think I'm going to do all my long runs there. By the time I get there I'm already 5 miles in so it works out. I can't wait to bring Chris there he's going to love it! I kept it at a 9 min/mile pace which was comfortable enough for me to feel good the whole run but fast enough for me to feel like I was pushing myself and not just jogging through the motions. Hopefully I can keep this pace or faster for the MDI marathon, which is quickly approaching. The only thing is MDI is almost all uphill so I'm going to have to step up the hill repeats/running Heartbreak hill. 1 mon...

Things I've learned from Waitressing this summer

1. 15% is never enough. 2. You have no idea what you're asking for when you order something not on the menu 3. Cutting fruit day after day is pure misery, so is cutting hot dog rolls 4. Racing flats are not good working shoes 5. 1 hour is not a long enough break - then again neither is 4 hours...or 2 days 6. I am beyond thankful for my college education which will lead me away from a life of minimum wage and 45+ work weeks 7. You can't judge a book by it's cover- or a tipper by the size of her diamond ring 8. You never know who you're talking to so ask questions - you just might find the next CEO of a hospital who wants to hook you up with an internship! 9. Working with your boyfriend is probably the best experience you'll ever have 10. I'll never eat tuna, bleu cheese, or tartar sauce from a restaurant 11. You have no idea the service you're doing when you stack your own plates on the table for the waitress to pick up 12. I have developed a weird phobia of ...
