16 Miles

Today I had one of my long runs - 16 miles! It went awesome. I ran to Harvard's Arboritum which is basically a giant garden right outside the city. The miles flew by a I ran past all sorts of gardens, lakes, ponds, streams, over bridges, across dirt paths and found some pretty great trails. The even better part was it wasn't all flat like Boston tends to be, there were definitely some hills. I think I'm going to do all my long runs there. By the time I get there I'm already 5 miles in so it works out. I can't wait to bring Chris there he's going to love it! I kept it at a 9 min/mile pace which was comfortable enough for me to feel good the whole run but fast enough for me to feel like I was pushing myself and not just jogging through the motions. Hopefully I can keep this pace or faster for the MDI marathon, which is quickly approaching. The only thing is MDI is almost all uphill so I'm going to have to step up the hill repeats/running Heartbreak hill. 1 mon...

Things I've learned from Waitressing this summer

1. 15% is never enough. 2. You have no idea what you're asking for when you order something not on the menu 3. Cutting fruit day after day is pure misery, so is cutting hot dog rolls 4. Racing flats are not good working shoes 5. 1 hour is not a long enough break - then again neither is 4 hours...or 2 days 6. I am beyond thankful for my college education which will lead me away from a life of minimum wage and 45+ work weeks 7. You can't judge a book by it's cover- or a tipper by the size of her diamond ring 8. You never know who you're talking to so ask questions - you just might find the next CEO of a hospital who wants to hook you up with an internship! 9. Working with your boyfriend is probably the best experience you'll ever have 10. I'll never eat tuna, bleu cheese, or tartar sauce from a restaurant 11. You have no idea the service you're doing when you stack your own plates on the table for the waitress to pick up 12. I have developed a weird phobia of ...
Move out day! As much as I adored my shoebox apt with it's 70's appliances, hacking-a-lung-up-every-morning neighbor, linolium flooring, and water that changed from icey to scalding in seconds for no apparent reason...I'm excited to be moving back to my multi million dollar, 19th floor, posh establishment in the center of Boston - even if it is a bit sterile and lacks the view of Mt. Monadnock, crystal clear lake a mere seconds away, and a charming bakery downstairs. This summer was ultimately a success, though at times I wanted to hang up my apron, throw a fritter at a kid, a storm out of the kitchen. Note to those reading: tip your waitress 20%, not 15%. Waitressing is literally manual labor. At the end of the day I was so exhausted I could barely take off my shoes before passing out before 9. The tips were good - families tended to like me because I was perky and liked to give compliments. And I told them what to order, because honestly, who really wants Indian Pudding...

First week, Farm week

Sorry I haven't posted at ALL about the summer thus far - this whole no internet thing is getting the better of me. I actually like it. When I'm not training or working I spend time reading, cleaning, pestering Chris, and cleaning my bike...FAR more productive things than stalking FB and updating my twitter. The only thing I really miss is keeping in touch with my friends and my cell service, that's a bit annoying. It's like Camp Miniwanca all over again! Chris and I had our first day of work this week. I really love it up here! So that's good! But work isn't my favorite thing about NH. I love the hills and the farms and the open air and Mt. Monadnock. I love the organic farms and hundreds of lakes we can swim in. I love never being bored or anxious. For two college kids Chris and I are eating fantastically - and cheap! All thanks to the local farms. Not much else to write other than that....this week I also climbed mt. Monadnock, that's a hike. My quads are...
