PR 5K

About ten seconds into my run today I wanted to quit. Well, perhaps not quite, but definitely not do what I set out to do. I'm not really sure what made me keep going. Maybe it was pride. Maybe it was me being stubborn. Maybe it was the fact I'm incredibly set on leaving behind all last semester and proving to myself that was just a hiccup, that I'm better than those 5 races I blew. Anyway, about 1/4 mile in my stomach hurt, my left shin was throbbing, and I was breathing way too hard for only running 1:30 seconds. But, in true triathlete fashion, I let that pass like the cars flying by me on the freeway....or that man on the bike who almost ran me over. I'm not sure if the 5k time I got was accurate today. I had to stop twice for red lights and I was incredibly pumped up for some reason - I blame my new running shoes I got today. I felt like it was an actual race as I walked down to where I mapped out the start of my run. My heart was beating fast, my blood was pumping...

Taking a stab at putting this GRE studying into practice

Today was one of the best days I've had in a really long time. And trust me, I've had some really good days...but this one was prime. To recapitulate : Last week when my work cut a lot of shifts I thought it was a train wreck, the whole reason I stayed in Boston this break was to work everyday to make money so after break I didn't have to work so much. So needless to stay I was desperate to be affluent . Instead, I was destined to be indigent , with no accretion in my bank account. That's okay though because last summer I was pummeled by nefarious Boston driver, an onerous occurrence then, but now I'm awaiting the result in the mail...in the form of a check which will turn my bank account into an abysmal pit to use at my discretion . Well, not really. But for a college kid anything exceeding $100 is a fortune. So today I got 8 hours at disposal. I ran 7 miles, read a book that has no association with school, napped, cleaned my defiled bathroom, vacuumed, chatt...

Bad Week

Do you ever get that feeling when you have so much to do that you fear starting a t0-do list you're because you'll probably just writing forever? Yeah, me too. Oh and you know when you need a day off to check out of life and breathe for a minute but you know you can't because the whole time you'll just be thinking of everything you have to do and how if you don't do it now it'll just keep stacking up and then you'll have twice as much to do tomorrow? Been there. And do you ever feel like the weeks just keep going by faster and you have no idea where February went or where March is going because you're so focused on the next thing you can't even see what's happening right now? And life is one big resume, application, number, or ranking? And all the while you're trying to get your next step alined, the step you're on is moving backward, like running the wrong way on one of those moving sidewalks at the airport. I'm still trying to figur...

Race Schedule

2011 Race Schedule! (Tentative) 5/8 - NE Season Opener Sprint 5/16 - CapeRide 218k 6/4 - Escape the Cape Sprint 7/10- Quakerman Olympic 7/18 - Buckman Sprint 9/1 - Mightyman Sprint 10/23 - Mt. Desert Island Marathon

Next up: Marathon 2

Chris and I found our next big thing - marathon number two next October! It's mt. Desert Island in Barharbor, Maine and it's rated as number two best overall marathon in the US and number one scenic marathon. http://www.mdimarathon.org Looks like fun right? Oh and even better: it's practically all up hill! I guess I'll be getting to know Summit St. really well the next few months.... This officially means I forgot how painful the last marathon was because I'm starting to think it's actually a good idea to do another one! But I'll do anything my number one training partner throws at me, and if he wants to do this then I'm right there next to him - actually probably behind him considering he'll run it around a 7 min/ pace....anyway. We put off my idea of Honolulu marathon and Reggae marathon in Jamaica until we can actually afford to get there some other way than by dingy. love love love, me

GRE

Well I just paid $160 to take a test that I'm probably going to be so nervous beforehand I'm going to throw up. Tomorrow I'm going to go buy the Kaplan book and probably cry. I have until May 14th to learn everything I need to learn to get a semi-decent score on the GRE - thrills. Oh and in one year I'll be graduated from college. Sweet. -me

Good God is that the sun?

HOLD THE PRESS. Can I just say...and I don't want to jinx it...and I'm NOT going crazy...you won't believe this but... it is WARMER than 30 degrees out and I SEE THE SUN. Ho-my-freak-alami-sandwich. Yes, it is 58 degrees and sunny out. I haven't felt this since November! This further supports my decision of be moving to more temperate areas asap. Katies weren't made for this frigid weather - we wear it on our face. Literally. My face has been peeling since December from the wind. So naturally, when it's almost 60 and sunny, I am stuck inside from the moment I wake up until 5...just long enough to watch the sun set and feel it get nippy again. Lovely. But for the few moments I was outside...it was pure heaven. Julie even got an iced coffee...but that might be pushing her luck because tomorrow it's supposed to be 51 and rainy - yeesh. But the temperatures are on the rise and that is fabulous. And I rocked all 3 exams, turned my homework in on time and got 100%...
