Dating a Triathlete

"I am an outdoors type of person." Really means: I train in any type of weather. If it's raining, snowing, 90 degrees w/100 percent humidity, or winds gusting at 30 mph. I don't want to hear any complaints because I will still train in it and you're just a big wuss for complaining about it. "I enjoy riding my bike." Really means: with or w/o aero bars, alone or in a peleton, I don't care. If you can't do a spur of the moment 30 miler then you're not my type. I will let you draft, but if you can't hang and I drop you - I will see you later. I am a capable mechanic, but don't expect me to change your flats or tune your bike. You need to learn that on your own. "I enjoy jogging." Really means: Let's run hills until we puke. I have just as many shoes as you only mine are better because they are functional and all look the same. "I enjoy dining out." Really means: I enjoy eating out, in or anywhere else I can fin...

War Updates

Though the end of the war is in sight...the Germans are holding strong. No reinforcements have been spotted in the past 24 hours however stragglers are apparent. They are tough, but weakening every moment. Another 3 bases were destroyed today. Start pouring the champagne boys, we're headed home.

Thankful

I'm thankful for days like today. Days where my body wakes me up at 6 am. Days where I spend all morning doing exactly what I want to do. Days where I run until my entire body collapses from exhaustion. Days where my best friend and I lay on the beach in the rain and pretend we're getting a tan. Days where I spend unnecessary amounts of money on fresh produce. Days where I nap while listening to the rain. Days where I chat on the phone with not one, but two moms. Days where I sip cranberry juice, do my nails, and watch a sappy movie. Just ordinary days. Days where nothing goes different, but nothing goes wrong. Days that I will forget about in the future until someone or something specifically reminds me. Days like this make up the years I look back upon and think, "those were the good days." love love love, me

Speed Concept 9.5

This sucks. I officially have done nothing today except lay in bed, sleep, and eat. I feel like a lazy piece of crap. I swear if I get ONE MORE injury this season I'm giving up triathlon forever. Who am I kidding? That's a lie. But honestly, this is dumb. I just want Dr. Jones to be in working order and my head to stop hurting. I also want the new Speed Concept TT bike in the window of Int'l Bikes...pictured above. I literally walk out of my way to stop and stare at it everyday. Sadly. It's even in my favorite color! I mean it's not my racing colors: black, red, and yellow..but I'd be willing to replace red with lime green... Helloooo wouldn't I look great on that bike? Speed Concept 9.5, if anyone feels like feeling sorry for my broken ass self and buying me a $6,000 bike... Ah...one day I will no longer ride the $1,300 heavy road bike bestowed upon me. Not that I'm not totally smitten on Dr. Jones, trust me, I am. But when I race and the only people pa...

Crash

Cycling at 21 is definitely not as much fun as cycling at 20 - maybe this is where I hit my peak and it all goes downhill from here. I hope not, if so that was a short, sweet, and injury filled career. Last week my coworker Holly told me that someone from my triathlon team came in and she asked if he knew me, and he said, "Yea! She's the one who's always injured!" Holly laughed and agreed - now assured that they were talking about the same Katie. Well, true to my reputation, about 2 weeks after I fully recovered from my sprained forefoot and I felt totally ready to throw myself back into training, I find myself joining the ranks of the concussed. I planned on a 40 mile ride, and was on the last 5 miles on Beacon in Newton, going about 17 on a flat - nice and easy - when all the sudden I find myself slammed into a black SUV. Thankfully God put a nice little landing pad underneath me so the only thing that actually hit the pavement was my head. I'm a little bruised,...

21

I was doing so good with blogging until this little event called my 21st birthday rolled around and now suddenly I don't remember anything! Kidding...but not really. This was by far the best birthday I've ever had. Not only did my very best friend from home fly in specifically to spend the week with me, but my other best friend took off work, my boyfriend's sister drove in from Western Mass, my other good friend drove in from home, and suddenly I found myself surrounded by all my favorite people in the world...which is more than enough as far as gifts go. It started out on the 15th when Molly flew in. I was so nerve wracked all day - her flight didn't get in until 9 and I worked all day, it snailed by. The very first thing we do is get on the shuttle to take us to the T, and what do we do? We miss our stop. "One more time around the airport, Louie!" A 1 minute shuttle ride to the other side of the terminal turned into 45 minutes - what a Molly/Katie thing to d...

Happy Couples

I'm not sure if it's Boston, or just Citysports, but all too often these miserable couples come into the store buying various sporting equipment - and you can just tell from the start the relationship is doomed to fail. I almost want to go Oprah on them and tell them to get the hell out and stop wasting their lives. These couples roll their eyes at each other, cut each other off, butt in when I'm asking the other person about what they're looking for, parent each other, and all around just have no communication skills. They're usually a younger couple - in their late 20s - but occasionally a married couple will come in. And I just pray it's an off day for them, that they're not always like that. Tonight another miserable couple come into Citysports. The high-maintenance, matching Nike sweat suit, glasses, pure white sneakers, Tennis and Racket club member boy was in DIRE need of "non-marking Squash shoes" as soon as possible, to start his trainin...
