Snowbasin 2/9/2013

FINALLY found a badass chica to hit the slopes with! YEAH! Yesterday the visibility was about 0 but it was a solid day at Snowbasin. I took my GoPro along with me and then edited it into a video that looks semi-interesting. That's Kate on the snowboard, the camera is attached to my head so you get a solid look at the fog and me falling a few times. Skiing/Snowboarding Movie

For Kristy (Who Loves to be Loved)

I forgot to mention that my very dearest friend in the whole wide world, Miss Kristy Rhian Norris (and her semi-decent fiance Rich, who will be sleeping on the porch due to his lack of ability to keep his less-than-kind remarks to himself - ehem .) will be traveling alllll the way from Rugby, Warwickshire (that's in England for you geographically challenged folks) on May 24 to visit! Yes - visiting me - in my little hodunk town in northern Utah. Why? I'm not quite sure...I have told her many a times there will not be the barhopping extravaganza we had when she visited Boston. But there will be hiking -ohhhh there will be hiking. Adventures will be had - for sure. Such as Kristy riding a horse. And meeting Henry. And a trip to Jackson and Moab and Salt Lake and wine and Pinterest and wine and running and more wine and then margaritas to wash down our wine. And now a sappy montage of me and my Kristy...most of these photos are somewhat shameful HOWEVER I am posting them anywa...

Summer Race Schedule

Not that I'm not completely, totally in love with freezing my ass off in the seemingly-never-ending Utah winter or anything but right about this time of the year (February-ish) I usually start to feel the gloomy days take their toll on me. It was worse in Boston than here.... at least here I have mountain activities to keep me entertained instead of homeless people, biddies, and the always impressive Boston rain/wind winter combination. Actually it's been sunny here - suck it, inversion. It was a toasty 30-something degrees out today - with sun! I almost broke out my running shorts and attempted to get a tan while I worked out. But as I learned the hard way...just because the sun is out does not mean you can't get frostbite. Skiing has helped a lot, though. Even though I fall a lot and totally suck and probably piss off a lot of people in my inability to ski in a predictable line.... I have a lot of fun figuring it out. I like endurance sports because even if I'm not ...

Pahk City

I think this is the first lazy Sunday I've had snuggling with my pup in bed - he's much better at it than I am. Usually when I decide the night before I'm going to sleep in, possibly forever, the next day, I'm up at 7 twiddling my thumbs, staring at the ceiling wishing I could be like a normal 20-something year old. But today I slept in until a WHOPPING 10:30. I am so impressed with myself. Not only did I sleep in until 10:30, I followed it up with some laying around in bed messing around on my iPad.  I'm not planning on making this a habit. It really set the stage for the rest of the day...which consisted of laying on the couch, watching the Puppybowl, doing slightly less than mediocre amounts of homework, and eating half a bag of Tostitos. An object not in motion tends to stay not in motion. 70.3 Half ironman training continues tomorrow - for real. I have a good excuse for the lackluster day - I spent literally all day yesterday barhopping and w...

School Drive Playlist

This is my usual Friday morning 45 minute Sardine Canyon drive to school playlist - enjoy!  All the songs are hyperlinked to youtube so just click on the titles. I think it has a lot of songs everyone loves but no one remembers how good they are until they go to some outside restaurant with their family and an old guy with a handle bar mustache wearing a Tommy Bahama button down is jamming on his acoustic and you suddenly find yourself mysteriously singing all the words with more enthusiasm than you'd care to admit. Todd Rundgen - Bang on the Drum all day  - My personal anthem Rains Down in Africa   Men at Work - Land Down Under   - For some reason this was my song of choice in middle school Talking Heads - This Must be the Place  - My mom's favorite song Pete Townshend - Let my Love Open the Door   Jump for my love - Pointer Sisters   This ones got a little sumthin' extra from my favorite scene from one of my favorite movies...
Did a bit of solo skiing yesterday. I've always been something of a loner when it comes to outdoor stuff - can you blame me? My life revolves around teaching communication to others, so when I get a chance to put the brain on hold I jump on the opportunity. I've always preferred biking, running, and swimming alone - I think all triathletes/endurance athletes do. So it wasn't surprising when I actually really liked skiing alone. I was a little nervous about getting turned around going down the mountain and ending up in east jesus land on the side of the road but it turns out Snowbasin is pretty clearly marked for us direction-challenged skiers. There are 2 blaringly obvious downsides to skiing alone: 1. Awkward lift/gondola rides 2. You can't hit up the bar after without looking a little sad - everyone knows the only socially acceptable place to go to a bar alone is in the airport So despite having several dead silent gondola rides, one where a lady was really put ...
