Break Time!

The delayed muscle soreness is finally coming to an end - thank God. It took me about 15 minutes longer to get anywhere on campus the last 2 days. I look like a 100 year/old woman who got beaten with a bat. No bad pain though, just a ton of muscle aches in my quads, calves and back. But I popped a Vicodin (left over from Wisdom tooth surgery - yay!) yesterday and I was able to sleep a lot. I've also eaten a lot, thank God. Nothing helps more than a lot of good food. But today I woke up and it's been getting a lot better. I think tomorrow I'll pretty much be normal - especially if I can get to fitrec today to stretch and foam roll. I leave for Saint Louis tomorrow at 6 am! I'm so happy! I haven't been home since spring break - going home is WAY past over due. But until then I have biostats to get through- womp womp. love love love me

Philadelphia Marathon!

I'M A MARATHONER!!!! It feel so good. I can't even describe. 2 years ago, or even last year, I never dreamed I would do a marathon this soon, if ever. I've never been a good runner and always did it just because it was part of the triathlon. But after all the training and all the misery of running 26.2 miles, I can finally say I'm a runner. And I actually like it. How odd. So here is my race report! Which is something all triathletes do after a race so they can recap and learn how to do things better for next race. Also, other new triathletes look at them so they can learn about the race they might do next year. It's a really great idea - I love race reports! The trip started off with triathlon team (David, Nick, Chris, Jamie and I) meeting at Espresso Royal (our normal meeting spot) at 8 am. We were all on time and ready to go! We had our shoes, our food, our coffee, our gallons of water and gatorade. Ready to hit the road before Colin started massively texting us ...

Marathon, T-shirts, and Painted Rocks

Just packed for the marathon! We leave at 0800 TOMORROW! I have so much compression in my bag I should be a spokesperson for CEP. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the race. Of course I'm so, so excited. But I also know it's going to be so, so painful. I read a quote about marathons: "The only other person in the world who understand the excruciating pain of a marathon is a person who has run a marathon." How inspirational! Okay maybe not, but my wonderful friend Kevin sends me inspirational quotes every week and they're a tad bit more appropriate for what I'm looking for. This weeks was: "Somewhere along the line we seem to have confused comfort with happiness. Some believe that quite the opposite is the case. Dostoyevsky had it right: 'Suffering is the sole origin of consciousness.' Never are the senses more engaged than when pain sets in. There is magic in misery." I suppose what he's saying is pain is what makes us fully aware o...

Gusty Days

So today the wind executed a full on, armed attacked. Literally. First, I tried to walk out of Stuvi, and it wouldn't let me open the door. COOL. Don't worry about me, I'm just going to stand here looking like a reTARD shoving all of my body weight against the door that is apparently glued shut. So a guy from the outside came and opened it for me. So much for women empowerment. And if that's not enough of making myself looking like an ass, the wind then blew my iced coffee out of my hand. How does this even happen? But I am DETERMINED to get my iced coffee and drink it too, so I went back to Dunkin' and the very confused manager gave me a free one - so at least I got something out of this disaster. I don't think he believed me though, and who would? Windy days are the worst days. Not only because my hair has more knots than a sail boat and gets stuck to my lips and all up in my mouth, but also I can't hold anything without it being gusted down Comm Ave, suc...

To All of those Running Philly....

Good luck good luck!!! I know the training has been so hard, especially in Boston in the fall/winter-ish season because it can be so incredibly crappy out. But the weather at the marathon is going to be near perfect- really. 50 and sunny! So use it to your advantage. We've all been through shin splints, knee aches, mental blocks, pulled muscles, ingrown toenails, stomach aches, cramps, and knots - but we're all SO close to completing a MARATHON. This is a huge deal - and something very few people in the world experience. I'm so proud of everyone who trained so hard for this day. And it's coming just around the corner! Then we get to go home, sleep, and eat our brains out without worrying about gaining weight or feeling lazy at home. Best of luck on the course everyone! love love love me

Tri Team

So I'm COMPLETELY stoked because I'm the new Vice President of Triathlon team! Yay! It's going to be a lot of work coordinating things but I really want to make this next year great. I'm so excited for everything to come next semester! I want more team bonding, practice participation, sponsorships, fund raising, workshops, and members. Max is president, Chris is secretary, and Meg is treasurer. It's a really great team and I think this year is going to be awesome. I can't wait to see what we can do. love love love, me

Watches and Weather

Boston weather is MOST confusing. Take for instance now. It's 51, so it's not freezing but not exactly t-shirt weather. It's overcast, but at the same time it's bright. Humidity is 84% but it doesn't look even mildly wet out. And I'm sure in about 20 minutes it'll either be a gorgeous, sunny day or all hell will break loose and it'll be freezing and torrential downpouring. And this week it's supposed to be sunny and 50-something, but last year at this time it was snow storming. This weekend at Chris' I ran in shorts and a t-shirt, and wished I wore a tank top. It felt like summer - in mid November! The GOOD news is, for the marathon it's supposed to be sunny and 50 again - perfect! The bad news is, that means at 6 am when I get there I'm going to be balls freezing but half way through I'm going to be dying of heat. What a predicament. Maybe I'll just buy cheap long sleeve shirts and shed them as I run. In other news, more than any...
