Summer is finally here, I've been waiting for it.

It's amazing what you can accomplish with time and energy - actually it's shocking. Yesterday was one of those truly extraordinary days where nothing went wrong, I loved every second of it. I did exactly what I wanted to do, when I wanted to. I woke up at 7:30 and sketched - I finished my sketchbook! Then I went to the fitrec for the first time since school let out, I was there for over 3 hours. I went to the library and printed some articles out and sat on the BU Beach and read them for a couple hours. Then I went to CVS and got all my errands done. I came home, made a really nice dinner, and watched a movie and talked to Chris. Then, my favorite, I went to get frozen yogurt and visit with Kels. Then I came home and completely passed out. For one I did everything on my checklist I said I was going to do - that NEVER happens. The best part? I think today will be just as good. love love love, me

Up and at ' em

It is now 7:15 am and who is up bright and early all miss sunshine? Let's just say I'm not pleased with myself right now. It's not like I don't want to sleep in, it's that I quite literally can't. I wake up at 6:50 practically ready to jump on the day - except now I have nothing to do this early...or really any reason to get up. I think I have tricked myself into thinking I always have something to do at the ass crack of dawn. Funny thing about that is... So today officially starts my first day of marathon training. The other funny thing about that is...it doesn't include running. My forefoot is still sprained. I can still work on my cardio and endurance though - something that has been neglected the past week - because cycling doesn't hurt at all. And I think later I'll hit the gym and swim...that shouldn't hurt, either. I just want it to stop hurting so I can start already! While B is running 15 miles a day and AL is up to 13...I'm sitting ...

Summer!

It's official! Summer class is OVER. That was a doosy...15 week class smashed into 5? How did I do that? That's not the point. The point is: it's done and I don't have to open another text book until September. I already got a HUGE head start on my summer check list - Chris and I did a LOT of work the first couple weeks of summer. Completed Events... -Raced in Cape Cod -Camped in Cape Cod -Cycled the entire length and back of Cape Cod -Completed a century ride (100+ miles) -Learned how to drive Chris' jeep -Golfed -Went to New Hampshire -Swam in a lake -Raced 3 triathlons and a duathlon -Mountain biked -Trail ran -Went to haymarket -Went to a beach -Rock climbed Upcoming events... -cycle to chris' house -hike mt. manodnock -bridge jump -start marathon training -read Born to Run -read Lance Armstrong's book -go to Mt Washington -Kayak -Another century ride -Finish sketchbook And this doesn't include all the random things I get myself into. love love love,...

"I was wondering when I was going to see you again." - my physical therapist

As I laid down last night with my foot in a boot covered in ice I began to wonder how many injuries it's going to take before I finally get the hint and stop running... Well, it's going to take a LOT more than shin splints, a sprained ankle, runner's knee, a sprained forefoot, left hip displacement, and plantar fasciitis. Just saying. love love love, me

From one Racer to Another

I always forget to mention one of my favorite parts of triathlon - the finish line. I know what you're thinking: "no shit Katie it's the moment you get to stop moving for the first time in over an hour, get a medal, a shirt, a water bottle, some food...." Okay, okay, ooobviously 99% of the field's favorite place is the finish line. But not only do I love it because that means, well, I'm finished, but I love it for the people I meet there. The people who ran the same race I did and endured all the hills and the long stretches and the transitions. The sprinting, the sweating, the climbing, the coasting, the heat, the cold, etc, etc. Without a doubt, when I cross the finish line, every time Chris is in some deep conversation with a new friend he met on the course. It takes him an average of two hours to get from the finish line back to the transition area because he stops every person who passed him and congratulates them. They talk strategy, equipment, shoes, bu...

The House that Built Me ^It's a link^ I thought if I could touch this place or feel it This brokenness inside me might start healing Out here it’s like I’m someone else I thought that maybe I could find myself If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave Won’t take nothing but a memory From the house that built me Mama cut out pictures of houses for years From Better Homes and Gardens magazine Plans were drawn and concrete poured Nail by nail and board by board Daddy gave life to mama’s dream Maybe I'm getting a little homesick...understandable, it's been 5 months. Promises Promises

I promise I will get better at blogging once respiration, phonation, and articulation no longer dictate my time and running, cycling, swimming, Citysports, and Harvard lab rule once again. Big plans for the rest of the summer, big plans. As usual. In the meantime...I'm trying to hide the fact I'm staring fixedly on the hockey player across from me who has gained no less than 30 lbs in the last 3 weeks. He really let himself go in the off season. I hope this isn't a reflection of BU hockey next season! love love love, me
