I'm sick of going to bed every night thinking, "Maybe tomorrow will be better."

This morning my alarm broke the silence of Boston at 6 am this morning. And I had a choice: I could either immediately silence it, roll over, go back to bed and pretend nothing happened...or I could get my ass up and DO something. At first I turned it off. I even started a text to Kayle canceling our little cycling date. Then my phone messed up so I took it as a sign. And then I had a thought. My philosophy professor (I have to break in, for as much as I HATE my philosophy class...I DO quote it a lot.) Nietzsche, as screwed up as he was, had a theory about will. And basically he said our life is guided either by a strong will or a weak will. And the stronger your will, the more you are able to trump your hedonistic desires. My hedonist side was telling me to roll over and go to bed. But then there was this muuuuch smaller little voice, approximately the size of a pin head, that told me to get up, put on the spandex and meet Kalye. So then I said to myself, "Self: how strong is you...

True Love

Literally...cannot stop smiling. I hate when people have pictures of puppies, "kissing" and cats "cuddling"..I mean they're not really. So stop trying to personify animals. They're just trying to stay warm and maybe get some "awww"s and dinner out of you. But this??? This otter is really, truly, and absolutely thinking, "Why, yes. Your flipper is the flipper I want to be holding right now." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKPx5OaMHjw&fmt=18

Days Like Today

Last night was one of the best nights I've had in a long time, for way too many reasons. I don't think I've laughed for an entire day like that in way too long. Work was absolutely hilarious. Not only do I adore my amazing co-workers, but it's an athletic/running store so obviously I'm in absolute heaven. I ran home on my break and took a quick St. Patty's Day shot with the girls, went back and finished off the last 2 hours laughing a little bit more than usual. One funny moment: I was hanging heavy winter jackets on a bar-rack and the hangers were facing away from me. So when I hung up about 12 of them, I went to pick them up by putting my arms over the bar and taking 6 in each hand. As soon as I got them off the bar I realized they were WAY too heavy for my to lift up for the bar. And I couldn't put them back because the hangers were around my fingers and that would result in me getting pinched. So dumbass Katie was absolutey stuck with her arms over the ...

My Best Friend's Wedding

"You're at this classy french restaurant. You order creme brulee for dessert. When it arrives, it's beautiful, it's sweet. It's irritatingly perfect. But suddenly...you realize you don't want creme brulee. You wants something else." "What does she want? " "Jello." "JELLO! Why would she want Jello?" "Because she's comfortable with Jello! Jello makes her comfortable." "I could be Jello." "No, you can't. Creme Brulee can never be Jello, YOU could never be Jello." "I HAVE to be Jello." "You're never gonna be Jello!"

What happened to the days where my biggest concern was what Barbie wore when she married Ken?

I decided that life is a lot more enjoyable when you don't have a billion different commitments beating down on you every second of the day. It's impossible to truly enjoy something and be in the moment when all I can think about is the next thing I have to do. It's actually quite exhausting. I can't remember when life stopped being fun and started being nothing but work, but I have a sneaking suspicion it was probably somewhere around the time I stopped playing with Breyer horses and Barbie. I'm beginning to see a pattern this semester: about every 2 weeks I have to sit down and refocus everything. My goals for training, my study habits, my social life (or lack thereof), work, lab...I think my next 2 week round is coming in the next day or two. Looking forward to it! Today I also got really, really, really homesick for my friend Dave and decided I hate Germany. Last semester he was my, "go to guy" for everything - and I mean everything - and not having th...

Squishy Carpet

My lab book got a perm. And no matter how long I begged, pleaded, cried, and blow dried last night...I have no choice. It must be redone. It's 2 in the morning and I'm up graphing population survivorship curves. *Sigh.* I spend $12,000 on housing a year and what do I get? A swamp in the middle of my room that ruins my lab book, my notebooks, and my transition bag. Now all I need is some fish, maybe an alligator or two, a snake...get some plant life in here...I might as well go all out. I bet my engineer friends can construct me a waterfall. On the upside, B and I are having a ball playing, "Lava." So far I've monkey'd across my dressers, my desk, my bed, over my bike, on top of the fridge, across 2 plastic drawer sets, and onto a chair for my Cliff bar. Quite fun, brings me back to my child hood.

Same Shit, Different Pile.

The longer I'm in college, the more I believe that history truly is cyclical, not linear - Sorry, Karl. Did you know the idea of cyclical history originates in Greece? Well, with all those philosophers wandering about I probably could have guessed. Brit studies Greece like its her JOB and she didn't warn me about this..what the eff roomie? Anyway, though there is more and more evidence that history is linear, personally? It's circular. One, HUGE, massive circle. This week is the one year anniversary of "Shit Hit the Fan Week." And to celebrate? Shit is hitting the fan - who woulda thunk it? 364 days ago: this week was, without a doubt, the worst week of the year. Al, Anya, B, and I suffered immense repercussions of what we thought were good ideas. Unfortunately, everything turned out TERRIBLE. I cannot disclose everything that happened because its confidential information that only a select few know. But basically: everything we did was completely shut down. Every...
