Sometimes the only thing words do is get in the way

Spiders don't bother me one bit. Neither do bugs. I've been known to chase after snakes and pick them up to freak campers out. I love horror films and haunted houses - even though I scream my head off. Strangers don't bother me. I'll walk home from a frat party through Allston by myself at 1 am. I have no fear of being alone. I love a good interview. Flying down a hill at 35 mph with nothing but a 17 lbs. piece of aluminum between me and the asphalt is my favorite. I love heights, big buildings, and standing on the glass that hangs off the Sears tower building. I've jumped off a boat into the ocean with manatees and swam after sting rays in the bay. Crowds don't give me sweaty palms and I've definitely never had to picture anyone naked. I'll eat anything anyone puts in front of me. The first time I cycled I went right down in aero position. I was the first one to stand on the deck of the sunken boat in the middle of Lake Michigan. But if you ask me to be...

Okay so it's not H1N1 but it still hurts

I suppose one up-side to getting the flu (or whatever I have) is having absolutely no excuse to not sit down and write my two 10+ page papers due in the next week. Training cannot possibly get in the way because there is absolutely no way I can even think about running, swimming, or cycling...considering it took me half an hour of huffing and puffing to pick three shirts off my floor and make my bed (by the way, that very event made it as number one on my Reasons to Never Let Myself Become Obese list) So, naturally, I'm blogging. Although all weekend I was fighting the urge to projectile vomit everywhere and every time I stood up it felt like I was on a carnival ride, it was actually a pretty good and I fought off the damn illness like a champ. Like I've said before, I have this incredible ability to will myself better. Excessive amounts of Motrin, Pepto, and Tums may have had something to do with it, though. It all started Friday with me being completely normal one minute, the...

Wishing for Less Wishes

I just decided happiness is when 11:11 comes around and you can't think of a wish. I mean a real wish, not a fake wish. You can always wish for something completely generic like world peace or free ice cream or the polar ice caps to stop melting so all the polar bears don't drown. If this is true, I have a lot to work on. 11:11 just happened, and my first wish was for more 11:11s so I could wish for more wishes. Then I retracted that wish because the 11:11 gods will get mad at me if I'm too greedy. So then I wished for my regular 11:11 wish, which I can't write about because then it won't come true. I will say, though, I find it ironic because in the end I suppose what I'm really wishing for is no more wishes. Does that make sense? At least I don't have Genie's lamp. With only 3??? I'd be in a real pickle.

Rare Spottings

This just in: Wooly Mammoths are not extinct. I spotted one today. I know what you're thinking, you're thinking, "no you did not Katie." Well, I am telling you right now, yes I did. He was at Fitrec tonight between the hours of 9:15 and 9:30 in lane seven - the one right next to mine. My first thought was, "my god who let the Walrus out of the zoo." Then I thought, "oh wait this is rare where is my camera...." And then I came to my senses and realized it was a real live man, and not a neanderthal, because that thought crossed my mind too. So then I HAD to pick the ONLY lane open, the one right next to his (I wonder why.) So I got an up close and personal view of, well, everything. Not that chest and back hair isn't the most attractive thing I've ever seen in the world (I just threw up in my mouth a little bit)...and especially when it covers a body with a BMI of around 30? Oh please break me off a piece of that. The best part? He left littl...
During my 62 mile cycle today and I invented a new word: Roadgasm (n) The physical and emotional experience that occurs when the perfect T.T hill is found and you shift to a high gear, crank out, and a pass a car. Pretty much describes my ride today. I also passed a group of 5 Northeastern cyclists. Suckers. lovelovelove, me

Not So Lazy Sunday

Today was punishment time for Saturday when I was lazy and literally didn't do anything but be exponentially crabby all day and night. So I woke up at 6 am and raced an indoor time trial at Landry's - which was awesome! Even though I started profusely bleeding in the middle of it (a lot of girls hate their nose, today I REALLY hated my nose) and I didn't have my aero bars attached so it was uncomfortable....anyway. No excuses. It was a solid B+. But then it was SO gorgeous out and I haven't cycled in forevers so after that I did another 42 miles plus a Summit Ave. repeat. I am so excited to be sore tomorrow :)

Aa1

I tested my first subject today!!! I'm not allowed to disclose her name (confidential information) but in my study she is Aa1 - because she's my first subject! And that's the name first subjects get. And it would be silly to name her something like Ab3 or Jerry or something. I guess I could go with R2D2? B-52? U-2? Uh..anyway so she is Aa1. Other than testing subjects (I love that phrase, I have subjects.) Anyway, other than doing that I've found the term "research assistant" actually translates to "lab bitch." Basically...file that. Organize this. Put all these little tapes on one big tape. Code these tapes: every time the kid looks right, record the time. And my favorite?? Confirmation calls! Awesome. But I did walk to and from the lab today, which I love. It's 3 miles away but it was gorgeous out so I put on my Colbie and went for a nice stroll. I wish I lived closer to Harvard Square, I love it there it's so cute. I left early today becau...
