First Ride in Utah!

...and then this happened God I love Utah.

Grad school: Day 1

Wow. Just wow. Words can't even express how in love with and how much I am blown away by Utah State. Coming here was by far the best decision I've ever made in my life. Not only is it absolutely stunning - and I mean ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. But the people are incredibly nice and campus is out of this world. Yesterday I dropped mom off at the airport and pretty much cried the entire way home - I said before I would allow myself TWO cries this summer. And I already used one. So the next one has got to be a good one. But after two phone calls - first one to Christopher and then later one to Ian - solved everything and made me feel much better. Of course Christopher tried to be my knight in shining armor and offered to fly out next week to help me out but I know that this is something I need to do on my own. As much as I love Chris for always making things 100% easier for me and always being there, I know that if I let him fix everything I'll never be able to do things on my own...

That college thing I did

Once again I'm sorry for ignoring you, my small but loyal fanbase. I've been blogging a lot in  Henry's Blog   - not because I prefer it over my own blog, but because it's a lot easier to write about Henry eating dead chipmunks than to write about graduating college. Soooo graduating college....college graduation....college graduate. Yeah, I actually don't have much to say. I came, I studied, I conquered. My college career actually has rather nice bookends: Mom and dad drove me with all my stuff from Saint Louis to Boston in a trailblazer, and now, 4 years later, mom and dad are driving me from Boston to Saint Louis in a trailblazer. I love things that come full circle! So instead of getting all sappy and talking about how much I learned and how much I love my friends and how much I'm going to miss college... I thought I would compile a list of things I never thought I would do in college that I did: 1. Compete in 20+ triathlons 2. Go to collegiate tria...
Just finished my LAST class of my undergraduate career! And it was, of course, math class *twitch*. God really does have the best sense of humor - "Numbers have always caused Katie to go into hysterical fits of composed of both crying and laughing, let's have that be her last college class memory." Duped by God again! How does he know!? I'll get him some day. Not shockingly it was actually 100% anti-climactic. No fireworks, confetti, or whales jumping. Obama didn't hand me an award on my way out the door and the Pope wasn't there to bless my exit from the building. Just Professor Burke trying to squeeze in oneeee last problem before we went into 5 min overtime. Actually, she might as well be a god, she DID get me to, at the very least, tolerate numbers this semester. I think our good relationship stemmed from when I discovered she was a cyclist and we talked nonstop about bikes for half an hour after class. Or maybe it was when I found out she went to Berkle...
Chris got a phonecall from Hill AFB in Utah telling him what's he's going to be working on! And it's THIS! I have NO IDEA what  "this" is, besides the fact that it's an A10, but I know those are some super engines and I bet it's really cool! He seems excited, anyway. Badass plane for a badass engineer (badass engineer...does that exist? Maybe the guy from Iron Man is badass..but from my experience engineers just walk around Photonics reeking of body odor sporting white New Balance walking shoes and carpenter jeans. Just sayin'.) Now I just have to convince him that flight test engineering is not a good idea, just like going Special Ops C.R.O was not a good idea. I just want to put him in a big bubble and keep him all for myself, where I know he's safe. Why can't he do something normal, like accounting. That's the most normal job ever. I would never have to worry about Chris testing new systems in planes and crashing thousands o...
Today the plan to go for a 35 mile bike ride and then go to Taste for breakfast was cut short by some bike problems - so obnoxious! I can tell Chris is getting really frustrated with this whole situation - and who can blame him? A triathlete literally depends on his bike and when it doesn't work...well, it's just no good. It makes me so mad he spent $1,400 on a bike that after 2 years has slowly fallen apart - from components to crank. I feel like every week it's something new and totally unrelated to last week's problem, I'm close to buying him a new bike just so we can get some quality rides in! I miss my training partner. I feel so terrible for him. At first I thought he was being dramatic and getting frustrated at little things but now I'm 100% convinced he really just had the worst luck in the world with bike maintenance! It kills me to see him so frustrated with it and I know he's such a good rider, he just doesn't have working equipment to back ...

Sir Henry

I just got back from a Sir Henry shopping spree at Pet Co! I was there for over an hour picking out toys, bones, a leash, a collar, etc etc etc. I'm definitely going to bring him again when I actually get him - I think he's old enough to pick out his own toys. Yes, they make energy treats for active dogs. They're organic and apparently it's like doggy GU. Perfect! I'm pretty sure Henry is too laid back to actually chew relentlessly on kongs, stuffed animals and ropes but I bought them anyway, just in case he changes his mind. I did see him chew a paper towel roll in half, so I think he's getting it. I don't think he knows what to do with toys, or knows that they're okay to chew because he never had them as a puppy. I get so sad when I think about how different his life could have been if he hadn't been found by Coonhound Rescue. I can't stand to think about how he grew up living on the streets and in the woods and almost died from starvation....
