100th blog post this year!!! Make it a good one....

Today I ate 1/4 bag of Hershey kisses, studied Anatomy and Physiology, signed up for the Philadelphia Marathon, and killed 3 bugs in my kitchen. I also drank 5 cups of coffee and made oatmeal. Then I iced my foot and googled marathon training for a bit. I also straightened my bed, tried to turn on my water, realized they shut off the water in my building for the day, got really angry I couldn't shower, and napped. And later I'm getting crepes with Catherine. Productive day? I'd say so. love love love, me

Miles and Miles

On my 126 mile bike ride on Sunday I did a lot of thinking. Well, maybe not a lot of thinking, but some...basically my 7 hours on the bike was broken down like this: 75.9 miles were spent thinking how lucky I am to be able to do this kind of stuff and how much I love cycling and pushing my limits and training and Chris who participates in all these ridiculous schemes 5 miles were spent thinking, "I am so hungry I'm just going to bend down and take a nibble off my aero bar...if I do it really slowly Chris won't even notice." 8 miles were spent thinking, "do not pee on yourself. Do NOT pee on yourself. Katie Weller do NOT pee on yourself." 7 miles were spent creating my own mash ups of Lady Gaga, T-Pain, Jason Derula, Justin Bieber, Michael Buble, and Nelly .1 mile was spent thinking, "FUCK! OW! OH MY GOD. OW! SHIT. OWWW." ....I got thrown off my bike. 5 miles were spent thinking, "my odometer/speedometer is broken." 3 miles were spent thin...

Limits

After some incredible encouragement from the most wonderful man ever put on this Earth, my mom, and my sister... *drum roll please* I decided to sign up for the Philadelphia marathon. Can I do it? Yes. Dumb idea? Of course. Will I get injured? Most definitely. Will it hurt? Without a doubt. Has that ever stopped me? Ha. Racing is my thing. I can't describe it...it's not what I do, it's who I am. If I can't race, I lose my passion, my thing that gets me going through everything else. I live for the starting line and train for the finish line. When I'm not actually training, I guarantee I'm thinking about training. It makes up 95% of what Chris and I talk about on a daily basis - which would bore most people out of their minds. I think that's one of the reasons we get along so ridiculously well, because we're two of the few people in the world who can sit around for hours on end discussing the pros and cons of forefoot running, or what angle your arms shou...

Workaholic

Quick blog in between Anatomy and Physiology Chapters - I'm learning about Phonation - some things in life NEVER get boring..especially learning all the ins and outs of the thyropharyngeus and the cricopharygeus muscles =) Those elevate the larynx...in case you were wondering. Spoiler alert! Here's something for all your Jeopardy fans: Did you know the hyoid bone is the ONLY bone in the body not attached to another bone? Anyway, not that that's out of my system. Actually it should be getting INTO my system, big exam one week and two days from today! Then it's OFFICIALLY summer. And I mean OFFICIALLY...besides working at the lab and CS and racing... Oh the woes of being a workaholic. And I really am, when I'm not working, I feel guilty that I'm not. And when I am, I just want to be working on something else other than what I'm working on. I have a REAL problem just sitting and staring at a wall or reading a magazine or napping - everything seems to be in sho...

Country and City

Another great weekend out of the city! As much as I love the hustle and bustle of living in the middle of Boston, the best city in the world, what I love even more is getting the chance to leave every once in a while...or every weekend. The city is awesome during the week. I'm never bored, I always have something to do or somewhere to go, I love nothing more than running around the Charles and cycling to Weston, and the people watching is fantastic. It's funny though, I know I live in Boston, but sometimes I forget. I read and heard about Boston all my life - mostly through American history classes - and it always seemed so foreign, almost exotic. But being from Missouri, almost everything is. Sometimes I have to sit back and really think about how I actually live here, in this amazing place filled with so much history and culture. But that's what the city will do to you, it makes you forget to appreciate things like that. Mostly because you're walking so fast all you c...

Today I decided I wanted to be faster

I ran 2 miles in 00:12:39:86. The fastest I've ever done it! I'm not sure why I decided to run tonight, I definitely wasn't planning on it. I found out it's exactly 2 miles to the Mass Ave bridge..and once I found that out, it's like I had absolutely no choice. My heart rate was already up even before I put my Zoots on. I think I'm programmed to do this. To air is human, to run is Katie. Let's hope I can keep it up for Saturday's race!!! love love love, me

Soul mates

On my 6 mile walk to and from the lab in 94 degree weather today I was quite literally frying myself to the point of third degree burn. Oh don't worry though, I had a portable pool around me - no, not the blow up kind. The sweat kind. Good thing my visceral system is up and running- go secretory glands go! Okay enough of the physiology of the human - sweat is awesome and all, 90% of the time I'm bathed in it by choice, but when I'm sweating all over my corpus coliseum drawing, causing the ink to run down and onto the brain stem, I get a little ticked off. Anyway, to distract myself from training for a Sahara Desert trek, I started to blog in my head - which I do a lot. Mostly when I'm cycling. So far, I'm working one entitled: There are Two Types of Men in the World: Golfers and Fisherman Inspired by, yup, you guessed it, mama dearest. But I'm not blogging about that today, mostly because it's not done yet. I'll keep you posted, though. Today the top...
